. The position is located in the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Visitor Services. The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum and research complex, consisting currently of 19 museums, galleries, the National Zoological Park, and nine research facilities. The Office of Visitor Services (OVS) is the principal office at the Smithsonian responsible for understanding, designing and improving all stages of a visitor’s journey, from planning, to visit and post-visit experiences.

Duties
  • Assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Center, including: troubleshooting digital interactives, monitoring visitor accessibility, and identifying areas within the public spaces that require attention.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Visitor Center, departmental staff and visitor experience teams at other Smithsonian museums to distribute various brochures.
  • Assists in answering inquiries from the general public received via email, web chat, or in written correspondence.
  • Performs other clerical and administrative duties and projects including, but not limited to, copying, developing graphs and charts, collecting data, and creating reports and presentations.

Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position spe cialized experience is defined as providing operational support in a customer service environment; answering client inquiries via email and in person; and performing a wide range of administrative and clerical functions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education: A bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university is fully qualifying at the Grade 5 grade level. Such education must
demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities
necessary to do the work.
